A beautiful beach less than six hours from Central London has been named one of the prettiest in the world, beating off competition from Italy, Thailand, Hawaii and the Philippines. Bamburgh Beach was named the best beach in Britain, and the sixth most eye-catching beach on the planet .
The study conducted by luxury travel company Kuoni tracked people's eye movements to see which natural landmarks the eye was drawn to. While the beach is known for the magnificent Bamburgh Castle behind it, it's also wonderful for walks at any time of the year, and due to low levels of light pollution, it's a popular spot for people looking to view the Northern Lights on a cold winter's evening.
For people with a car, the epic 333 mile journey from Central London to Bamburgh would take six hours via the M1 and the A1(M). The journey by train would take just 20 minutes longer, with the quickest route being a train from London Kings Cross to Berwick Upon Tweed, followed by a 30 minute bus journey to Bamburgh Castle.
Last year, a study by Which? crowned Bamburgh beach as the best in the UK, ahead of Tynemouth in second place. However, coming in the top 10 in the world may come as a surprise - with only some of the globe's most jaw-dropping ahead of it, including Italy's Numana Alta Beach.
This Kuoni study asked participants to look at pictures of 50 of the world’s most famous natural landmarks and tracked their eye movements tracked using AI technology. Then, data on which images drew the eye for the longest was analysed to reveal the most eye-catching natural wonders and beaches.
