Best Celebrity Fashion at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards

September 2024 · 6 minute read

Stars showed up in fierce fashions at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on January 15, 2024. Ted Lasso actor Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Allen White of The Bear looked dashing in Giorgio Armani suits while their co-stars Ayo Edebiri and Hannah Waddingham wore custom Louis Vuitton and Marchesa, respectively.

Early color callouts for the evening included wine-hued gowns that flooded the red carpet while olive oil green was worn by Top Chef's Padma Lakshmi, Yellowjacket's Sophie Thatcher, and Rhea Seehorn of Better Saul Call. Stars were also pretty in pink as Abbott Elementary's Quinta Brunson glowed in a magenta tea-length dress by Dior Couture, and Claire Danes sauntered down the carpet in a powdery pastel vintage number from Balmain. Meanwhile, the cast of White Lotus served stylish Italian glamour, and the stars of Yellowjackets sent the internet buzzing with their looks.

See ahead for our picks of the best dresses, suits, and everything in between from the red carpet.

We'll be real — the InStyle Slack channel blew up over Ayo Edebiri's strapless Louis Vuitton dress. The look, overall, was sleek and modern elegance with just the right amount of accessorizing courtesy of Brilliant Earth diamond jewelry. the dress itself fit like a glove and we could spend a very long time marveling over that pleating.

Sarah Snook in Vivienne Westwood

There were plenty of ballgowns on the 2024 Emmys red carpet, but Sarah Snook's Vivienne Westwood gown stood out thanks to masterful draping that gave its full skirt the lush shape of a rose, its petals in full bloom. The softness of her gown was beautifully accented by the square-cut diamonds on her Cartier jewelry.

Padma Lakshmi in Marchesa

Vintage chartreuse is back babes. For proof, look no further than Padma Lakshmi's Grecian Goddess Emmys look brought to us by a Marchesa gown with an immaculately construsted bodice.

Neicy Nash in Greta Constantine

We wouldn't want to try and walk in Neicy Nash's custom Greta Constantine mermaid gown but we will swoon over the velvet and satin concoction all day. Paired with perfectly over-the-top opera gloves, the look served up a heightened Old Hollywood sense of glamour.

Jessica Chastain in Gucci

Jessica Chastain is another star who opted to glow in green. Her Gucci gown dripped in micro-fringe and featured subtle sequin work, two of our favorite 2024 trends in one grand garment. The vibrancy of Chastain's gown was beautifully offset by her emerald green Reza jewelry.

Suki Waterhouse in Valentino

We love a bold red dress on a red carpet, but we love a bold red dress even more when it has pockets and has been designed to fit around one's bump, as was the case with Suki Waterhouse's Valentino gown.

Selena Gomez in Oscar de la Renta

Va-va-voom and then some. Selena Gomez stunned in an Oscar de la Renta gown hat was pure magic spun from illusion mesh and oxblood appliques. The bold, on-trend color was perfectly synchronized — without overtly matching — in Gomez's  Rene Caovilla strappy sandals and Tiffany & Co. jewelry.

Rachel Brosnahan in Versace

Rachel Brosnahan's Versace gown not only snatched and accentuated her waist thanks to the tiniest, baby hip fins, it also stole the show with one of the night's trendiest colors — rich and moody oxblood. The precise hardware of Brosnahan's gown was echoed in her sharp and spikey Rainbow K and Suzanne Kalan jewelry.

Colman Domingo in Louis Vuitton

Mark our words: Colman Domingo's fellow actors are going to step up their accessory game after going toe-to-toe with his impeccably well-heeled looked throughout awards season. For the Emmys, Domingo dripped in diamonds courtesy of earrings, rings, and bracelets by REZA Jewelry.

Christina Ricci in Saint Laurent

Like Domingo, Christina Ricci also brought jewelry front and center. Her plunging Saint Laurent gown allowed a dazzling Martin Katz pendant necklace to take center stage while matching bracelets and rings echoed its emerald gleam.

Hannah Waddingham in Marchesa

When Hannah Waddingham goes for a look, she commits. Such is the case with her stunning beaded Marchesa gown — with matching Marchesa jewelry. Waddingham's sleekly coifed hair even echoed the way her gown shifted from sheerness patterned with delicate whorls of beads into richly rippling tulle. Bravo.

Jeremy Allen White in Giorgio Armani

Proving that he can wear a suit as well as he can wear his Calvins, Jeremy Allen White looked polished in sleek Giorgio Armani.

Quinta Brunson in Balmain

Quinta Brunson delivered a dreamy look with crinkle-soft edges in a rosy Balmain midi dress paired with crisp nude Jimmy Choo pumps.

Jenna Ortega in Christian Dior Haute Couture

Give Natalie Portman's watercolor Dior dress from the Golden Globes a bit of a punk rock refresh and you've got Jenna Ortega's gorgeous gown from the same fashion house. We love a bit of latticework and the edgy almost excavated feel gives us a hint of Wednesday Addams without a single swatch of black.

Simona Tabasco in Marni

There are bountiful florals and then there are, you know, genuinely harvest-worthy florals like Simona Tabasco's gown fresh off the Marni Spring Summer 2024 runway. Given that her gown delivered such grand spectacle, Tabasco's choice of subtle Cartier jewelry was the right one.

Aubrey Plaza in Loewe

Aubrey Plaza's known for having a bit of a sharp edge and we could say the same thing about her buttery yellow Loewe gown. In a lovely blend of hard and soft, Plaza opted to keep her EFFY hoop earrings and rings curvaceous and smooth.

Ali Wong in Louis Vuitton

Ali Wong's Louis Vuitton gown mixed both prints and metallics for a look as vibrant and cleverly self-aware as the comedienne herself.

Issa Rae in Pamela Roland

Issa Rae rarely disappoints on the red carpet. Simply put, our girl's a risk-taker and those risks often pay off like they did at the 2024 Emmys. Rae's Pamela Roland gown was giving everything, everywhere, all at once from fringe to beads and rhinestones, but it worked so well.

Elizabeth Debicki in Christian Dior Haute Couture

We hate to toss around the word "statuesque" but what else are we supposed to say about Elizabeth Debicki's beautifully goth glam Dior Couture look? Find a more fitting word, we dare you.

Claire Danes in Balmain

Like a few other celebs, Claire Danes opted for a vintage gown for the 2024 Emmys. Her pale pink gown served sleek and tailored from the front and Grecian goddess from behind. Danes' gown's bold shoulder epaulets were beautifully echoed by Cartier chandelier earrings.
